San Jose del Monte

San Jose del Monte is a city in Bulacan Province, Philippines. Population – 439,090 people. (according to 2007 data). It is part of the Manila agglomeration. It is divided into 59 districts – barangays.

History
The city was founded in 1752 by the Spanish authorities, being separated from the city of Meicahuayana (English) Russian. In 1845, San José del Monte was separated into a separate parish.
At the end of the 19th century, the city became the scene of an armed struggle between rebels and colonial troops. The Spaniards prevailed and burned the city; many residents of the city became refugees.

In 1898, the city, like the rest of the Philippines, was captured by American troops. In 1918, San Jose received the rights of a small city (English town). During the reign of the American administration, the city began to develop, educational institutions and industrial enterprises were built. During World War II, the city became a stronghold of the Filipino guerrillas who fought against the Japanese troops.
After the war and the independence of the Philippines, the city was attacked (in 1950-1951) by combat units of the communist organization Hukbalahap. After the defeat of Hukbalahap in 1954, the threat came to naught.

Economy
Modern San Jose is a fairly developed city by Philippine standards. The city’s economy is based on trade, the financial sector, the food industry and telecommunications.
September 10, 2000 received city status.
