Pasig

Pasig (Philipp. Lungsod Pasig) is one of the 16 cities that form the country’s Capital Region – Metro Manila. It borders the cities of Tagig (to the south), Makati (to the southwest), Mandaluyong (to the west), Quezon City (to the northwest), Marikina (to the north), and Rizal Province (to the east). With a population of 669,773, it is the fourth largest city in the Capital Region, and the eighth largest in the country.

History
Before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 16th century, Pasig was part of the Muslim Sultanate with its capital in Tondo, which traded with Arab and Indian merchants. The local population at the site of the modern city, mainly consisted of ethnic Malays, Chinese who migrated from the southern outskirts of China during the Ming Dynasty and local Tinguyan tribes.
The majority of the population professed Islam.
With the conquest of the island of Luzon by the Spaniards, the displacement of Muslims and the instillation of the Catholic faith in the local population began.

The modern city of Pasig was founded by the Spaniards in 1573.
In 1901, during the Philippine-American War, Pasig was included in the province of Rizal and the city was given the status of the provincial capital.
In 1975, Pasig was incorporated into the Metro Manila Metropolitan Region.
On January 21, 1995, the city of Pasig was given the status of a highly urbanized city.
At the end of September 2009, the city was flooded by continuous monsoon rains and overflowing rivers during Typhoon Ondoy.

Economy
Pasig is one of the largest financial and economic centers in the Philippines. The most financial centers of the city are located in the western part of the city.
