Uiju

Uiju (Korean 의주군, 義州郡) is a county in the DPRK, which is part of the northwestern province of Pyonganbukto.
In the north, the county borders on China. The border runs along the Yalu River. To the west of it is the counties of Sakchu and the city of Kusong in the province of Pyonganbukto. The area of ​​the county is 420 thousand km².

History and Landmarks
As a frontier area, Uiju has repeatedly been the scene of battles with both Chinese and Mongol conquerors in the past. In the first half of the 20th century, the county became one of the birthplaces of the national liberation movement in Korea against the Japanese occupation.

On the territory of Uiju, there is the Dongjun Pavilion, built in 991, which is one of the cultural monuments that make up the National Treasure of the DPRK.
