Fizuli

Fizuli (Azerbaijani Füzuli)/Varanda (Armenian Վարանդա) is a settlement in Transcaucasia. According to the administrative-territorial division of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which has controlled the settlement since the summer of 1993, it is located in the Hadrut region of the NKR; forces. This territory is part of the so-called security belt of Nagorno-Karabakh, located outside the territory of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic declared in 1991, which came under the control of Armenian forces in 1993 and subsequently included in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

History
The former village of Karabulag – since 1827 a Russian outpost, the city of Karyagino, named after Colonel Pavel Karyagin, since 1905 – the administrative center of the Karyaginsky district. According to the “Caucasian calendar” of 1912, 550 people, mostly Russians, lived in the village of Karyagino, Karyaginsky district, Elizavetpol province. In 1959 it was renamed in honor of the poet Fuzuli. The population of the city in 1989 was 17,090 people.

On August 11, 1872, a big fire broke out in the Molokan village of Karabulag, Shusha district, out of 24 houses, 22 burned out. The inhabitants were left homeless. Residents of neighboring villages came to their aid and rendered the victims of the fire, although not their fellow believers, very cordial assistance with a loan of grain bread and food supplies.
