Tulcan

Tulcán (Spanish: Tulcán) is a city in Ecuador.

Geography
The city of Tulcan is located in the far north of Ecuador, directly on its border with Colombia. Tulcan is the administrative center and largest city of the Ecuadorian province of Carchi. The city lies in the Andes mountain range at an altitude of 2,960 meters above sea level, on the Pan American Highway crossing the border here, opposite the Colombian city of Ipiales.

Climate
The climate of this city lying high in the mountains is unusually cool for tropical Ecuador.

Sights
The main attraction of Tulcan is its cemetery, which is decorated with skillfully trimmed green shrubs and trees in the form of garden sculptures. The beginning of this peculiar creativity was laid in 1936 by a resident of the nearby village, José Franco, and continued by his sons.
