Health

In addition to the variety of landscapes, cultures, historical monuments and cities, this former French colony has recently begun to offer a fairly wide range of medical services for medical tourists from all over the world. This country has a good healthcare infrastructure and qualified medical professionals, many of whom have been trained in Europe and the USA. Today, there are about 80 private clinics that meet European standards. Most of them are equipped with the latest medical technology, and the total number of hospital beds in them reaches 2,500. More than 8,000 doctors work in these clinics, whose qualifications are recognized and confirmed in Europe. Therefore, every year more and more tourists come here for treatment and recreation from European countries – Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain.

The areas of surgery in Tunisia most sought after by foreign tourists are cardiology, gynecology and urology, orthopedics and ophthalmology. Tunisian experienced cosmetic surgeons, many of whom have been trained in Europe and the USA, enjoy a very good reputation along with specialists in ophthalmology, orthopedics and dentistry. This is basically the treatment that is not covered or reimbursed by the health insurance of most foreign countries. Thus, the success of this new player in the medical tourism market is largely due to the affordability of prices for treatment in Tunisia for the quality medical services offered. For example, the cost of a cervicofacial lift is 2,500 euros, which is 40-60% cheaper than in Western countries. This price also includes the cost of a week’s accommodation.

The level of medical care in Tunisia is quite high, which makes it possible to provide quality services to both citizens of the country and visiting guests. The modern healthcare system of the country is doing everything possible to expand the network of medical institutions and modernize existing clinics. At present, the country is characterized by competent and highly qualified doctors, sufficient provision of the necessary equipment and drugs, as well as the reliability of medical facilities, which has been repeatedly noted by the quality of not only state, but also international level.

Both state institutions, the total number of which is about three thousand centers, and private clinics operate on the territory of the country. The latter are, in most cases, centers of the same direction – dental, outpatient, dialysis or plastic surgery centers.

The sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country is considered absolutely favorable, which is ensured by strict control by the state. As a result, no special vaccinations are required for those entering the territory of Tunisia. However, it is highly recommended to take out an insurance policy, in the absence of which any medical assistance will be paid by the tourist additionally. It is also worth taking a small first aid kit with a basic set of medicines that you may need during your vacation.
