Cotton yarn

There are many types of yarn: wool, silk, cotton. But Many craftsmen prefer cotton yarn, let’s see why. First you need to understand what cotton is. COTTON – cotton seed fibers, using natural bleached and mercerized cotton. The differences are visible to the naked eye. Bleached cotton cannot be dyed rich, vibrant colors; and mercerized – acquires shine, takes on any of the brightest shades. The mercerization process (treatment of cotton yarn with alkali) is not cheap, so the yarn will cost more. But this is justified by its acquired properties. Mercerized cotton is easier to wash, dries quickly, and stretches less. Craftsmen also choose cotton for knitting, as it is more pleasant to wear, very easy to care for and not picky in washing. Cotton is sometimes used along with acrylic or wool, which gives things more elasticity. You should also know that cotton yarn is most often used in the manufacture of summer or spring items, since the resulting clothing does not retain heat well, but allows free passage of air. Cotton yarn is of vegetable origin and is natural. Things made from cotton absorb moisture very well, they do not form coils hated by everyone and have a very high resistance to wear and damage. If you want things made of cotton, then know that they will always be hygienic, and will not lose color for a long time when in contact with direct sunlight. You can dye cotton yarn in any color, and the yarn will look beautiful and attractive for a very long time. Cotton threads are alkaline treated to give them a more beautiful sheen and shine. The main distinguishing feature of cotton products is that when they come into contact with your skin, they bring a lot of pleasure with their softness and tenderness. In terms of strength, cotton is much ahead of wool, but it is much inferior in strength to things made of linen. Also, cotton yarn is sometimes included in blended yarns. Things made of mixed yarn sometimes shrink after washing, and also take a long time to dry. It is best not to use high temperature water when washing such things, and when drying, do not use artificial drying (that is, artificial washing – washing in washing machines or in institutions specialized in drying), so how it can increase the risk of shrinkage. Warms cotton much worse than linen. Clothing knitted from cotton is not elastic. It is quite difficult to clean things from cotton, since this yarn is environmentally friendly. You should know that if you wash things from colored cotton, then you should wash at temperatures up to 60 degrees, if the cotton is white and not dyed, then you need to wash at temperatures up to 40 degrees. Otherwise, if you violate these rules, things may sit down immediately after the first wash. The quality of cotton depends on the country in which it was grown, for example, cotton grown in Egypt is considered the best cotton, it is called Abassi. Most cotton in the world is produced in China and the USA, it is also believed that there is the highest quality cotton, not counting, of course, Abassi. Tips for working with cotton:
1. If you are going to work with cotton, then I advise you to use thin knitting needles. After all, the thinner the knitting needles, the stronger and denser your things will turn out.
2. When working with cotton, try using wooden or bamboo needles, as these needles will not slip in your hands during work.
3. When you knit the first part, make a probe, and then wet it. It will tell you how the yarn you are working with will behave and whether it will be dyed. If you want to knit a thing with stripes, then knit a probe with all the colors that you have in the form of stripes, this will help you see how the colors look.
4. Working with cotton is very difficult, the work gives a lot of strain on the eyes, so first take breaks, then if you wish.
5. When you rinse your product for the first time, add one tablespoon of vinegar to the water, this will help things keep their color longer.
6. If you like yarn with sheen, use mercerized cotton when knitting.

To summarize, all the positive and negative qualities of cotton will look like this:
Positive.
1. Cotton is very soft.
2. Pure cotton has good absorbency during warm weather.
3.Pure cotton is easy to dye.
4. Most importantly, cotton is a healthy, natural product.
5. Things made of cotton are not harmful to health.
6. Things made of pure cotton are pleasant in contact with the skin, as they are delicate and soft.
Negative.
1. Clothes made of cotton wrinkle easily, so I do not recommend it to young people.
2. Cotton, unfortunately, Has a tendency to shrink.
3.Clothes made of pure cotton turn yellow in the light, blended clothes do not.
As you can see, there are more positive qualities than negative ones.
Cotton, which is in mixed yarn, has different qualities. Most often, cotton is mixed with linen, bamboo, acrylic, viscose, polyester, lurex or methanite. Blended yarn comes in a variety of compositions. For example :
1.Cotton 70% + 30% polyester thread (so-called harsh thread will turn out)
2. Cotton 80% + 20% polyester thread (threads will be obtained, which are now used in production almost always)
Mixed yarn items have:
1. Very good air exchange, which is important in summer, in hot weather;
2. Clothes made of blended yarn have increased wear resistance;
3. optimal geometric shape.
Cotton also takes part in the combined yarn. Combined yarn is a yarn from a combination of two, three or more types of threads of different structure, quality, appearance.
But it is best for yourself to buy, of course, things made of cotton yarn, because only they guarantee that they will not cause you allergies and will not prick, any thing made of pure cotton is very soft and gentle on the skin. Enjoy the shopping.
