Knitting yarn with knitting needles

Yarn for knitting

There are a large number of types of yarn for knitting. All of them are different from each other, but there are some similarities. Now I will list you the main knitting yarns:

Composition of thick yarn

The quality of any knitted product depends largely on the correct selection of yarn. Any yarn should correspond to its style, purpose of the product, style and much more. In the world of knitted fashion at this time there is a large number of all kinds of different yarns. Silk, cotton, synthetic and other threads are used for knitting.

Now we will look at some types of yarn:

The strongest yarn is linen. Items made from linen dry more easily and absorb moisture more easily than knitted items made from wool or cotton. Linen itself never shrinks or shrinks at very high temperatures. Linen products in very hot and sultry weather are preferable to cotton ones. Linen is difficult to bleach or dye. Therefore, most often you can find linen yarn, a gray-beige natural color.

Cotton. Cotton yarn, in its composition, is relatively dense, heavy and not very elastic.

Cotton dyes beautifully and does not fade almost. The shine of the cotton thread is achieved by processing with a special alkali.

yarn “iris” is a typical example of such processing.

Cotton yarn is inferior in strength to silk and linen, but much better than wool.

Cotton sits noticeably, and dries for a very long time.

Cotton has a rather low, but higher warming effect than linen.

All products are made of cotton, which is why it is better to wear it at a normal, average temperature, it is not advisable to wear it in extreme heat.

Cotton is bad, it turns out to make textured patterns and elastic bands.

cotton is often used as part of blended yarns (with acrylic or wool).

Eco yarn is considered an environmentally friendly yarn, made from environmentally friendly linen and cotton. Which are grown without the use of pesticides and colored only with the most natural dyes. For information, woolen yarn is also perfectly dyed with natural dye. the palette of colors of natural dyes is somewhat poorer, unlike chemical ones, however, it includes the whole spectrum of natural tones in itself. It is necessary to strictly follow the rules for the care of eco-yarn, which are given on label.

Silk. Silk thread holds heat well. Spools on it are practically not formed. It does not deform, is strong enough, and is remarkably colored. all silk products absorb moisture well. Basically, for knitting they use completely different types of silk yarn.

Rayon. Artificial silk dries quickly, but it is not strong enough. Practically not used in its pure form, for knitting. It is added to various other types of yarn in order to improve their characteristics.

Wool. According to its characteristics, woolen yarn is much lighter than more elastic and vegetable. Holds heat well. Doesn’t get wet very quickly in water or rain like cotton, but is less durable. Disadvantages of woolen yarn are poor yarn tackiness and, when rubbed, the formation of spools on it. At the same time, if the yarn is twisted weaker, then these shortcomings are more pronounced. Vegetable or artificial fiber is added to the wool yarn in order to make the yarn stronger. Acrylic and wool yarn has become a classic example. Therefore, after any additions, the yarn becomes cheaper. Such a feature of wool as stretching should be taken into account when washing products, especially when wet, this is clearly visible.

Merino wool. Very soft wool. Other types of fibers are rarely added to it, and if they are added, it is only to make wool cheaper, and not to improve its quality. It is ideal for children’s things, as it does not irritate the skin of the child. Merino wool is much more expensive than ordinary wool.

Angora. Angora wool is obtained from Angora rabbits. This wool is practically not used in its pure form. Firstly, because it is quite expensive, and, secondly, because it is not elastic at all. But in the composition of angora wool is just perfect, acrylic or merino wool. Very fluffy, soft and warm coat of the angora rabbit.

Camel’s wool. There are two types of camels: Vicuna and Bactrian. The wool of the Bactrian camel is less valued than its counterpart from South America, and besides, it is a little fragile. Camel hair is practically not bleached and therefore comes in either natural colors or black or dark colors. The wool of the Vicuna camel is considered the best. This camel is a queen among wool. The Wicuna’s coat can only be sheared once a year, when its coat is at its finest. The wool of this camel is not the most expensive.

Cashmere. A very warm, lightweight yarn, and soft, but it is too susceptible to pilling and friction, which is why you will hardly find pure cashmere. It is almost always mixed in different proportions with wool fiber.

Alpaca. Alpaca wool is valued more. Llama and alpaca wool can currently be divided into twenty-two color shades. Starting from pure white, after silver, beige, brown and ending with black. Alpaca wool practically does not form pellets and does not fall off due to the fact that individual wool fibers are slightly long. The fabric in the product often “hangs”, as it has a denser yarn from this wool. There is a main feature for storing alpaca wool. She can’t stand naphthalene. Because of this, I use natural remedies against moths, such as lavender, cedar or tobacco. As a rule, alpaca yarn is used in its pure form.

This artificial fiber is Viscose, for knitting it is not so common in its pure form, since it has many shortcomings. Very often, viscose is part of the blended yarn. Most often with cotton. Viscose fiber is the cheapest, however, like many other types of artificial fibers.

fancy yarn – yarn obtained by mixing fibers of different quality and color, as well as yarn made using a special technology. Natural fibers are often mixed to obtain fancy yarn with synthetic fibers or metallic threads.
