A new confession of an economic killer. John M. Perkins

New confession of an economic killer. John M. Perkins

Foreword
Economic hit men (EHs) are highly paid professionals who swindle trillions of dollars from various states around the world. The money these countries receive from the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other foreign "aid" organizations is funneled into the vaults of the largest corporations and into the pockets of some of the richest families that control the world's natural resources. They use such means as fraudulent manipulation of financial statements, election fraud, bribes, extortion, sex and murder. They are playing a game as old as the world, which is acquiring now, in times of globalization, threatening proportions.
I know what I'm talking about. I myself was EU.

I wrote these words in 1982. Thus began the book with the working title "The Conscience of an Economic Hit Man." The book told about the presidents of the two countries, my clients, people whom I respected and considered kindred spirits: Jaime Roldos, President of Ecuador, and Omar Torrijos, President of Panama. Shortly before the book was written, both died in terrible accidents. Their death was not an accident. They were eliminated because they opposed an alliance of corporate, government, and bank heads that planned a global empire. We EHM failed to get Roldos and Torrijos involved in this campaign, and a different kind of killer came into play - the CIA-sent "jackals" who always backed up our actions.

Then I was dissuaded from writing this book. Over the next 20 years, I took it up again four times. Some event in the world prompted me to do this: the US invasion of Panama in 1989[1], the first Gulf War[2], the events in Somalia[3], the appearance of Osama bin Laden[4]. But each time, threats or bribes convinced me to stop.

In 2003, the president of a major publishing house owned by a powerful international corporation read a draft of what would become Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. According to him, it was "an exciting story that should be told." Then, smiling sadly and shaking his head, he admitted that he would not take the liberty of publishing this book because his superiors in the international headquarters may not like it.

He advised me to write a work of art based on the book. "We could sell your books if you came out as a novelist - like John Le Carré or Graham Greene."

But this book is not a work of art. This is the real story of my life. A bolder publisher, independent of an international corporation, agreed to help me tell it.

And yet, what made me forget about bribes and threats?

In short, you can answer like this. My only daughter, Jessica, graduated from college and entered independent life. When I told her not too long ago that I was going to write this book and shared my concerns, she said, “Don't worry, Dad. If they get to you, I'll pick up where you left off. We must do this for your future grandchildren, whom I hope to give you someday."

A more extended answer to this question also suggests loyalty to the country in which I grew up; and fidelity to the ideals formulated by the founding fathers of our state; and my commitment to America, which today promises "life, liberty, and opportunity for happiness" to all people, everywhere; and my decision after 9/eleven, 2001 not to sit back and watch the EH turn the republic into a global empire. This is the skeleton of my detailed answer, the flesh and blood of which the reader will find in later chapters.

Why wasn't I killed for such confessions? I will explain in detail how this book itself became my best insurance.

This is a real story. I lived every minute of it. Everything I have described is part of my life. Although the story is about me, it is still set in the context of global events that have shaped our history, brought us to where we are today, and laid the foundations for the future of our children. I tried to reflect all the events as accurately as possible, describe the characters and convey the conversations. When discussing historical events or recreating dialogues, I used several sources: already published documents; with your notes; memories - both their own and those of other participants in these events; the manuscripts of five of his other books; historical reports of various authors, especially recently published and containing previously classified or closed for one reason or another considerations information. The link system allows interested readers to understand a particular issue in more detail. In some cases, I combined into one dialogue communication with people that took place on different days, so as not to confuse the narrative.

My publisher asked if we were really calling each other economic hit men. I assured him that this was the case, although the abbreviation EI was predominantly used. In 1971, when I started working with my teacher Claudine, she warned me: “My job is to make you an economic hit man. No one should know about your work, not even your wife." Then she said seriously: “If you decide to do this, you will do this all your life.” Subsequently, she rarely used the phrase "economic killer", we became just EH.

Claudine was not shy in terms of describing what I would have to do. My job, she said, would be to "push the leaders of the world to do whatever they can to advance the commercial interests of the United States. In the end, these leaders find themselves in a debt hole, which ensures their loyalty. If necessary, we will be able to use them for our political, economic or military purposes. In turn, they strengthen their own political position, as they give their people technology parks, power plants and airports. Meanwhile, the owners of US engineering and construction companies are becoming fabulously rich.”

If we fail, the so-called "jackals" will come into play - a more terrible kind of economic killers! And if the jackals miss the prey, the military will take care of it.

* * *
More than 12 years after the first publication of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, my first publisher and I decided it was time for a new edition. Readers of the first book (2004) sent me thousands of e-mails asking how its publication has affected my life, how I am going to redeem myself and change the system of economic murders, and how they, in turn, can help me. In this book, I will answer all your questions.

The need for a new edition of the book is also caused by the fact that the world has completely changed. The ES system - based on debt and fear - is far more dangerous and perfidious than it was in 2004. Economic hit men are expanding their ranks at a monstrous pace, employing ever more sophisticated forms of deceit and disguise. We, the United States of America, were hit hardest. The whole world suffered. We are on the verge of a catastrophe - economic, political, social and environmental. It's time to change something.

This story must be told. We live in a time of deep crisis — and virtually limitless opportunity. The story of this particular economic hit man shows how we got into this position and why we so often face crises that seem insurmountable.

This book is the confession of a man who, when I was an economic hit man, was a member of a relatively small group of people. Now they have become much more. They occupy respectable positions; walk the corridors of the 500 richest companies in the world, such as Exxon, Walmart, General Motors and Monsanto; they use the ES system to promote their personal interests.

In fact, The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is about this new EH cohort.

This is your story, the story of your world and my world. We are all partners. It is time to accept our own responsibility for the way this world has become. The economic hit men succeeded because we partnered with them. They seduce, lure, and threaten, but they only win when we turn a blind eye to their deeds or succumb to their tricks.

When you read these words, events will take place in the world that are difficult to even imagine. Let this book help you take a fresh look at these events and what awaits us in the future.

Awareness of the problem is the first step towards solving it. Recognition of sin is the way to its redemption. And let this book be the beginning of the path to our salvation. May it lift us to new levels of consciousness and help us realize the dream of a harmonious and respectable society.

John Perkins.

Introduction
New confession
Every day I'm haunted by the ghosts of the past. I'm ashamed of the lies I told while defending the interests of the World Bank. I am ashamed of how I, along with this bank and its subsidiaries, helped American corporations entangle the entire planet with their poisonous web. I am ashamed of the "kickbacks" to the leaders of poor countries, of blackmail and threats that if they refuse loans that should enslave their countries, CIA jackals will either overthrow them or kill them.

At night, I often have nightmares - I see the faces of heads of state, my friends who died because they refused to betray their people. Like Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare's tragedy, I try to wash the blood off my hands.

But blood is just a symptom.

The cancerous tumor that I was able to open in Confessions of
